Adorable Animals

I spent my morning just following links for cute animal videos on youtube. A bit of a timewaster as I should be doing other stuff, but it just makes my heart swell and brings me a bit of joy.

First one is you guessed it, a bunny! I need to get Daisy a rug so she will do this. Her main living area is lined with lino, so she slips if she tries to do her bunny jumps (binkies). I wonder what type of music she would like. I have some Deep Forest or Buena Vista Social Club that she might enjoy :-P

Okay I want a pig now. I've always thought they were cute but this is adorable! The way she shakes her head in play reminds me of a bunny rabbit as they do this a lot when they're happy.  In my opinion, people need to start looking outside of the box  ie. cats and dogs when looking for a new pet.  There are so many animals out there that make awesome pets and people don't even know it!

I'm glad to know it's not only me that snores. I hope I only look and sound this cute!

This one just made me laugh...

And finally a little Chinchilla. I love these creatures; their fur is so soft and dense. They are native to the Andes in South America. They take dust baths to clean their fur so you should never let them get wet. They are just adorable! I used to keep mice when I was a kid so they remind me of a giant mouse with those cute ears!

Hope you enjoyed them!

Documentary: A Farm for the Future

I found this on Youtube about a week ago, and thought I would share it with you.  It gives me a lot of food for thought. One thing in particular that interested me was the use of fossil fuels to maintain and harvest certain types of farming.

Vegetarians/Vegans have long argued that a plant diet is not only nutritionally sound but environmentally sound.  This documentary highlights that this is not necessarily so.  Although currently the majority of animal farms currently use a lot of fossil fuels to maintain the animals and fields, small time animal farmers can, with time and research maintain their livestock during winter without the use of heavy machinery and therefore fossil fuels.  Rebecca Hosking says "our hay harvest by far is our biggest single use of machinery and fuel on this farm".  She finds a small time farm who have researched and maintain their cattle throughout the winter months without resorting to hay to feed them.  Their only piece of machinery is a quad bike. Vegetarian and vegan diets are heavily reliant on grain and energy to harvest these foods are heavy on the use of fossil fuels.

Watch and learn.  It is in five parts and can be followed via links in youtube

Baby Bunny

Beware: The following video exhibits EXTREME Cuteness. Please consult your doctor before watching if you are prone to emotional reactions at fluffy baby animals.

My heart almost burst watching this. My favourite part was around 0:33 where all you can see is her little mouth eating and nose twitching...ahhhhh!! Also at the end where she finishes the flower and starts licking her lips then washing her little face. Awwwww *heart*

The Awesome Post

I thought I'd do a post on the awesome things that I've seen, done or had happen to me in the past week or so. There are always things to be grateful for!

1. Losing your wallet and having the person that found it hand it it to the local police station with nothing taken. Not only awesome, but bloody awesome.  It restored my faith in humanity a little.  If I could hug the person I would!

2. Home made pizza. Observe:

ricotta cheese, parmesan cheese, buffalo mozzarella, onion, tomato, green bell pepper, fresh torn basil

you know you want me

3. Christine from For The Love Of Cookies, squatting 215lbs for 5.  Awesome.  She's only a little thing at 114lbs!  Most women can barely squat their own bodyweight once.  She's squatting almost double her body weight for reps!

  4. Trying a new beer.  Awesome.  I really enjoyed this one, and like the label suggests it has a hint of honey in the flavour.

a thing of beauty

5. Spiders.  Especially when they eat the flies that come into your house.  I am actually scared of spiders but I adopted a spider and named him Harry.  We try and feed him now and again. He's awesome.

6. Upcoming annual leave. Enough said.

7.  Food blogs, in particular Angela's blog at Oh She Glows.  Her blog really inspires me to eat better.  I tried her lentil walnut burgers the other day and they were awesome.  Even my husband thought they were really good and he looooves meat (as most men do).  Thanks Angela!

burger in progress
I know the burger is the focus of the conversation, but do you see the beer in the background??

8. My new vacuum cleaner.  Either my house gets incredibly dirty after a week or it is picking up a crapload  stuff in my house.  That's what I'm talkin' about.

9. Today.  It is spring at the moment and it was a perfect spring day: sunny, lovely temperature, birds singing, flowers blooming *sigh*

10. Massage.  I had one today for the first time in over one year and it was AWESOME.  I feel so good right now.  I saw Shelly at Bodyneed. I used to get them every 2 weeks a couple of years ago and I felt the best I have ever when I did that.  I want to try and do this again.

11. My bunny being bunny. She is so cute!

12. Going for a run and beating your time from last week by one minute. Awesome!

Earthlings

A must see, but definitely not for the squeamish...  close to R18 in some places.  I pretty much wept during some parts. There are 10 parts to the documentary, after each part you can follow the link to the next part. It's about 90 minutes in total.
